Japantown/The Western Addition
Japantown on Geary Street at Fillmore Street, is comprised of a big concrete shopping mall dominated by a tall temple tower. Although the mall is not that appealing from the outside, once inside you'll find many excellent boutiques offering beautiful and whimsical Japanese wares, from art to home décor and calligraphy art supplies and much more at very good prices. Also, there are many fine Japanese restaurants to choose from, incuding one called Isobune at 1737 Post Street that features little plates of sushi on little wooden boats that float by you as you sit at the sushi bar. Choose as many as you like, and then the waitress tallies up your bill based on the total of little plates you've acquired.

Japantown is also home to the famous Kabuki Springs Spa, and the Kabuki Movie Theatre complex, which is always one of the key hosts to the San Francisco International Film Festival.

Nearby, the famous nightclub that began in the 60's Flower Power heydays, The Fillmore at 1805 Geary, is still going strong today, featuring new as well as classic rock musicians.

The much photographed Alamo Square is lined by Hayes and Fulton Streets and Scott and Steiner Streets. It features the familiar postcard scene of a row of quaint, colorful Victorian houses on a hill with a beautiful view of the San Francisco skyline in the background, like the one on our home page! The park is popular with people photographing this iconic view, along with picnickers, dog-walkers, and sun-worshipers on sunny days.

The modernistic St. Mary's Cathedral, also on Geary Street at Gough Street, is an impressive structure, and has been visited by the Pope on several occasions.
